Wallaby legend and Santos ambassador Tim Horan has said he is proud to be associated with an Australian company that is committed to working with the local community.

Speaking in a short video released today, Horan said the support Santos gives to the Narrabri community, especially the junior sporting clubs, is invaluable for people in the region.

Tim who was recently inducted into the World Rugby Hall of Fame, has been travelling to Narrabri and the North West region for Santos for a number of years, promoting the importance of fitness and a healthy lifestyle to local school children.

“I believe I’m an ambassador for the Wallaby jersey and a custodian for the Wallaby team having played 80 test matches over a 12 year period,” Horan said.

“So for me it’s really important to partner with someone who has strong values and similar values to what I have and I believe Santos has that.

“I’ve seen that in the local community, I’ve seen that with farmers, I’ve seen that at the rugby clubs, I’ve seen it at the local shops around Narrabri and Gunnedah where the people believe in what Santos is doing and in the sustainability of the business model going forward.

“The support Santos is giving those local rugby clubs by sponsoring and also just having the community engagement is really important for the younger generations at those rugby clubs to see there is a future in the country and a future in energy in Australia.

“I can’t wait for the moment when a Wallaby comes up to me in in 10-15 years’ time and says ‘Tim, I remember when you came to Narrabri and you showed me a Wallaby jersey. I was ten years old and that drove me to want to play for Australia.’ That’d be a great sense of achievement.”

Santos is proud to support many sporting and community groups in Narrabri including the Narrabri Blue Boars Rugby Union team who this year took out the senior premiership for the second consecutive year. Santos is also proud to be the major sponsor of the Central North Rugby Union.

CNRU President Tony Byrnes said Santos’ support underpins the Central North rugby program.

“Without the Santos sponsorship, rugby in the North and North West of the state would be limited in how it conducts its rugby program,” Mr Byrnes said.

Horan who has also toured Santos’ operations near Narrabri, said he was impressed by Santos’ commitment to working with the community and to answering questions about all aspects of their work.
