A legal challenge to Santos’ approval for phase two of work at the Leewood site, south of Narrabri has been adjourned until May 17 and 18.

Approximately five months ago, the Environmental Defenders Office, on behalf of People for the Plains, commenced its legal case against Santos’ approval to build and operate a facility to  treat salty water extracted during  operations so it can be reused for a variety of purposes including irrigation on Santos’ Leewood property.

On Monday evening, Santos was advised that the plaintiff wanted to amend its case.

On Wednesday, at the scheduled Land and Environment Court hearing, all parties spent considerable time trying to reach agreement on those amendments, but unfortunately were unable to. The matter was then adjourned to enable the changes to be dealt with by all parties.
