The State Government has announced its Gas Plan for NSW, incorporating the recommendations of the Chief Scientist’s final report on the industry which was released in September 2014.

Santos’ General Manager of Energy NSW, Peter Mitchley says the Gas Plan is a positive step forward in finalising a framework that will allow NSW to develop its own natural gas industry and supply more affordable and essential energy to NSW families and businesses.

“We see this as a platform to assist in creating and maintaining jobs in NSW as the plan acknowledges the critical role developing the State’s own gas supply will play in future economic growth.

The NSW Gas Plan should provide the community with the confidence that the industry is effectively regulated and can safely deliver much needed energy to NSW. As such, it is critical the implementation of the measures proposed should not slow down existing projects that are working towards increasing gas supply and putting downward pressure on gas bills in NSW.

Santos has a 60 year track record of operating safely, sustainably and responsibly throughout Australia with high standards and expertise in project development.  We look forward to continuing to work with the NSW Government as they roll out these initiatives.

It is important to reiterate that supply of natural gas from NSW is vital to the economic viability of local industry and affordable energy for families. Continued delays in developing natural gas resources will only increase cost pressures for business, jobs and impact on families day to day lives.”
